Samantha's actions
Week 1 Focus: Recycling and Composting
No More Wish-cycling
I will recycle the right materials by educating myself on what goes in the bin and keep other things out.
Belongings
Learn About & Practice Sustainable Fashion
I will spend 90 minutes learning about sustainable fashion and fast fashion and start applying what I learn to my own life.
On-the-go
Use A Reusable Mug or Collapsible Cup
I will avoid sending 2 disposable cup(s) to the landfill per day by using a reusable mug or bringing my own collapsible cup.
At Home
Recycle Everywhere
I will add recycling bins to other areas of the house to make recycling easy for my household of 4 people.
Week 2 Focus: Packaging and Low-Waste Shopping
Make it at Home
I will replace a store-bought item with a homemade item to reduce packaging waste.
Week 3 Focus: Out and About
Assemble a Zero Waste Kit
I will assemble an eating-out bag with cloth napkins and reusable utensils, containers, and cups and use it to avoid disposable to-go containers and cutlery for 3 meals each day.
Food
Plant a Garden
I will plant an herb or vegetable garden at my home or community garden.
Week 1 Focus: Recycling and Composting
metal recycling
I have some battered metal items such as game boxes, planters, and a Christmas ornament. I'm going to bring these and my Al cans to the local metal recycling business. I may chose to exchange battered items for metal items in their "boutique" area (candle sticks, plates, flower pots, etc.) to resell, keep, or gift.
At Home
De-Clutter My Home
I will de-clutter, clean, and donate or recycle unneeded items in my home.
Family
Buy Used Kids' Clothes
I will buy 5 items of clothing from secondhand outlets instead of new clothes for my child/children.

REFLECTION QUESTIONOn-the-goGreat job on getting rid of your disposable cup habit! How does it make you feel? What's next on your list to reduce your waste?
Samantha Weatherston 5/07/2021 3:13 PMI don't buy coffee much but if I am somewhere there is coffee I hate to admit I like how it feels and tastes in a paper cup...but that's not a good reason to keep doing it! We have extra sweatshirts in a duffle bag in the back of our car, so I added two car coffee mugs to the bag to easily grab when needed. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONBelongingsHow can you express your personality, creativity, and values in ways that don't require fast fashion or buying more clothes and accessories?

REFLECTION QUESTIONFamilyOften times, buying children's clothing used is more socially acceptable than buying clothing for yourself or other adults. Why do you think this is so?
Samantha Weatherston 5/04/2021 8:41 PMWith many people there is a stgma to adult used clothes because it reminds them of being financially poor as a child. -
Samantha Weatherston 5/03/2021 1:36 PMYay, I actually had a bag to put Brazil nuts in that I bought in bulk at the coop.
