Reflection QuestionFood Properly Store FoodDid you find that you were storing food incorrectly? Which items have you changed?
Andrea Siegel 6/11/2020 11:31 AMCarrots and broccoli were getting limp in my vegetable drawer. I have started storing broccoli upright in a mug with a bit of water and rinsing carrots then storing in a covered container to keep the moisture in. -
Reflection QuestionFood Plant a GardenBesides having access to fresh herbs and vegetables, what benefits will you see from growing your own garden?
Andrea Siegel 6/11/2020 11:29 AMIt's an activity my kids can participate in over the summer and teaches them where food really comes from plus I am hoping it makes them more willing to try new vegetables.-
Laurel Bieschke 6/11/2020 3:58 PMCongrats on your garden! I don't have one at the moment, but some of my earliest and best memories are of picking green beans in our family garden. Kids can learn so much about science and our planet while also enjoying some time outside. Love it!

Reflection QuestionBelongings Track My PurchasesWhat have you noticed about your purchases? Where are you inclined to make shifts, if any?
Andrea Siegel 6/11/2020 11:28 AMCurrently, most of my purchases are for groceries and books. We are back to borrowing books from the library now that curbside is available and have also switched to checking them out digitally vs. buying online and shipping. -
Reflection QuestionFood Make Use of LeftoversHow have you modified what you do with leftovers to make sure nothing goes to waste?
Andrea Siegel 6/03/2020 12:59 PMWe don't have a lot of leftovers, but since we are home for lunch every day now, we have leftovers as our main lunch option when we have any. Also, we have always used leftover fruit and veggie scraps for smoothies, fried rice, and veggie stock. -
Reflection QuestionOn-the-go Choose Two-Sided PrintingChoosing two-sided printing can be an easy adjustment on your computer settings. How can you help others make this same switch? Can it be encouraged company wide?
Andrea Siegel 6/03/2020 12:54 PMI office from home, so this is really a personal action and requires me to physically feed the paper in to print on its front and back. I try to save one-sided print outs to be reused for printing on the other side or for taking notes for work and school projects. -
Reflection QuestionPersonal Care Buy Better Beauty PackagingHow can you advocate for the importance of reducing packaging to the rest of your friends, family and larger community?
Andrea Siegel 6/03/2020 12:52 PMLead by example, promote/recommend my favorite products that have little to no packaging or are packaged in more sustainable materials (e.g. glass vs. plastic), create learning opportunities for my community via my participation on our neighborhood environmental committee (workshops, webinars, written blog posts and e-news content, etc.). -
Reflection QuestionAt Home De-Clutter My HomeHow can you prevent yourself from accumulating more things in the future?
Andrea Siegel 6/03/2020 12:48 PMWe are focusing on refusing, repairing, borrowing, accepting hand-me-downs, etc. ...and asking, "do I really need this?" every time we want to buy something. -
Reflection QuestionAt Home Hold the MailReducing your paper mail can be such a freeing action to take -- by reducing what is coming in, you can reduce what is going into the recycling bin, too. How does it make you feel? What is the next step you will take to reduce your waste?
Andrea Siegel 6/03/2020 12:46 PMI had already unsubscribed from so many catalogs and mailings over the last few years, and yet we still receive at least 1-2 pieces of junk mail every day. They literally just get carried in and put in my recycling bin every day. Hoping I can eliminate these last few items of junk mail! -
Reflection QuestionAt Home Make Green CleanersWhich household cleaners did you try making? Have you been able to simplify your cleaning routine?
Andrea Siegel 6/03/2020 12:29 PMGlass cleaner with vinegar-water-orange peels, surface cleaner with water and 7th gen dish soap, cleaning toilets with baking soda -
Andrea Siegel 4/29/2020 12:28 PMLooking forward to kicking off the challenge in May!
