Megan Mahn Miller 6/17/2020 10:12 AMI am on the board of an organization called Community Exchange For Change. If this were a non-pandemic year we would have hosted out clothing swap earlier this month. But since it is a pandemic year we are pivoting to a sidewalk swap this Saturday, June 20!. Find out more about our organization and this weekends event on our Facebook or Intagram page: https://www.facebook.com/CommunityExchange4Change/-
Megan Mahn Miller 6/18/2020 10:45 AMDorothy, (Sorry I still haven't learned how to reply to comments) Unfortunately our event is from 10am to 4pm. We are also holding the event the following Saturday if you aren't working that day. Thank you for your interest! -
Dorthy Vitullo 6/18/2020 4:46 AMSounds great, I work 9-5, how late will it run?

Reflection QuestionPersonal Care Reduce Makeup UseHow have you handled wearing less makeup? Have there been any unexpected benefits?
Megan Mahn Miller 6/10/2020 2:56 PMIf it makes sense, I feel like my skin can breathe better. I haven't noticed anything yet relating to oiliness or dryness but my skin feels happy! -
Reflection QuestionPersonal Care Choose Plastic-Free DeodorantWhat benefits have you noticed after switching deodorant? Softer skin? Better scent? More peace of mind?
Megan Mahn Miller 6/08/2020 10:12 AMNow that you ask, I think softer skin. The main ingredient in my homemade deodorant is coconut oil. Peace of mind on a couple of levels - less waste and now I know exactly what is going on my skin. -
Reflection QuestionOn-the-go Assemble a Zero Waste KitWhat items do you keep in your kit? What steps have you taken to help make this a habit and remember to bring your kit with you?
Megan Mahn Miller 6/02/2020 9:44 AMMine contains a few different types of straws, fork, knife, spoon, chopsticks, napkin, and coffee cup sleeve. It sounds like a lot but it is really small and contained. I try to think about my day and where I may be going, what I will be doing and if I need it I pop it in my purse. If I worked in an office I would keep it in my desk drawer. Having a spare for friends is always nice too!-
K Jucha 6/04/2020 2:39 PMMine contains most of those items but I need to add chopsticks. When the office was open, I would keep come lightweight ceramic dishes and wash them out each day.
As much as I love to go to lunch etc., brining food from home is the best way to reduce waste (IMO) -
Dorthy Vitullo 6/02/2020 11:24 AMWay to go megan!! I have a bamboo set I purchased from the George Well Being Center...no napkin or coffee sleeve...love saying NO to plastic!

Reflection QuestionOn-the-go Use Reusable UtensilsHow can you be an advocate for using resusables instead of disposables for the rest of your community? Where are they currently dependent on disposable cutlery, and how can you convince them of the need for change?
Megan Mahn Miller 6/02/2020 9:41 AMModeling the behavior in public garners interest and may inspire people to use reusable themselves. It is so easy t pop your own supplies in a glove compartment/back pack/purse/locker/desk drawer. By not accepting unsustainable cutlery at restaurants you are showing them you feel it is important. -
Reflection QuestionOn-the-go Skip the StrawHave you noticed a shift in your community as more messaging about reusable straws becomes mainstream? Cite some examples.
Megan Mahn Miller 6/01/2020 10:51 AMI have not honestly. I try to give reusable straws away when I can as little gifts but I think it is my value and might not be as well received by others. I have noticed a few people skipping straws altogether though. -
Reflection QuestionFood Plant a GardenBesides having access to fresh herbs and vegetables, what benefits will you see from growing your own garden?
Megan Mahn Miller 5/29/2020 12:03 PMKnowing where my food comes from and what was used to fertilize and weed. -
Reflection QuestionBelongings Have a Zero-Waste DayWere there any moments that surprised you when you refused packaging items? What were the hardest items to avoid?
Megan Mahn Miller 5/29/2020 12:03 PMThose little plastic bags at the grocery store are so easy to grab, but I have made my own muslin produce bags and that has helped reduce my plastic use.-
K Jucha 6/04/2020 2:40 PMThat's a great idea. I shop at a local 'tare' store so I bring jars etc (when I can) for my bulk items. -
Megan Mahn Miller 6/01/2020 10:48 AMEmily - I have not been asked not to...but maybe I am breaking the rules? (Sorry I couldn't figure out how to reply directly to you) -
Emily Barker 6/01/2020 12:24 AMHave you been able to use those during COVID=19? I am still using my grocery bags, but have stopped using produce bags right now.

Reflection QuestionAt Home Make Green CleanersWhich household cleaners did you try making? Have you been able to simplify your cleaning routine?
Megan Mahn Miller 5/29/2020 12:02 PMWe made a rosemary/vinegar cleaner for surfaces. Because of the felines in our life, we are mostly using vinegar based cleansers and they are working great!-
Megan Mahn Miller 6/04/2020 5:36 PMKim, Give Roswell a pet from me and let her/him know they are a good kitty! (Still can't figure out how to reply to replies, if anyone can educate me...) -
K Jucha 6/04/2020 2:41 PMRoswell (the cat in my pic) high fives you...
