Then last week, I had a "retreat" with the FS Foundation that I work for https://fsfdn.org/ in Louisville, Kentucky, with lodging in New Albany, Indiana. These were my first flights since Sep 2019. Zero Waste, it wasn't. We met Louisville Grows https://louisvillegrows.org and toured the Bernheim Arboretum and Research Forest  https://bernheim.org These are great nonprofits!

Since this challenge started, I drove from Minneapolis to Ames, Iowa, to stay with my dad to take him to Des Moines to get a replacement aortic heart valve. He received the valve through a blood vessel in his groin on May 5. Within four hours, he noticed further improvement in his health than he thought was possible! So - maybe this has distracted me from Zero Waste, but it's likely he'll live a lot longer now!

Hi Laura, Thank you for your great ideas and inspiration!
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Food Buy Unpackaged Produce
Why do you think these products have so much plastic packaging? Who is the plastic packaging really serving -- the consumer, the producer, or someone else?

SOMEONE ELSE! Plastic packaging is serving the fossil fuel industry to give them another purpose to sell their oil, as Americans, staying at home for the pandemic, don't drive as much, or as they adopt electric cars.

Kenya - made plastic bags illegal. The oil companies in the US are pushing the US to push Kenya to use plastic bags again!

    Food Plant a Garden
Besides having access to fresh herbs and vegetables, what benefits will you see from growing your own garden?

    (1) It would be fun to get my hands in the dirt!
    (2) I would be sequestering a tad bit of carbon!
